During last Tuesday's meeting, Club members sang a tribute to beloved Rotarian Rod Abbott, who passed away April 17. A member of the Rotary Club of Sedona since 1998, Rod was the example of Rotary in Action. Rod believed in giving back to his community and is remembered for his leadership of the bond issue and creation of the Sedona Performing Arts Center. He performed many administrative duties for the club including arranging and scheduling weekly guest speakers, greeting members and guests are the door, writing weekly reports about club activities for the media, and other public relations activities. Rod was honored with every club recognition including Paul Harris Fellow and Silent Rotarian Awards for his years of outstanding contribution and service. In honor of Rod, the club dedicates this year's Great Sedona Chili Cook-Off in his memory. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on May 9 at the Church of the Red Rocks. Our condolences to his wife, Peg and family.
Assistant District Governor Renata Barnwell and Club Secretary Dave Young received kudos for graduating from Rotary tri-district Leadership Academy on April 18. Rotarians can only be invited to participate and must also be a past president of a Rotary club. The program is designed to develop future Rotarian leaders.
