EDDIE PASSOV MEMORIAL GOLF TOURNAMENT

Eddie Passov was a beloved member of the Sedona community for over 20 years. He died unexpectedly last November at age 77. Eddie was both an avid golfer and a true humanitarian! When he wasn’t playing golf or performing his role as a starter at Sedona Golf Resort, he was busy devoting his incredible energy to helping others.

Eddie would have been pleased!  The Eddie’s Promise Golf Tournament sponsored by Rotary Club of Sedona and Eddie’s adult children and benefiting the Verde Valley Imagination Library Program was a huge success!  68 golfers enjoyed a round of golf on a beautiful Sunday morning at the Sedona Golf Resort on Labor Day weekend.  57 more joined the golfers for lunch and ice cream sundaes and to celebrate the spirit of Eddie.  There was a successful silent auction that had 24 items, a 50/50 raffle with the winner, David Simmer, donating his win back to the Imagination Library, and a Beat-the-pro hole with almost every player participating. The Sedona Golf Resort donated gift card prizes for the pro shop for this fun competition.  On top of that, there were tee box sponsors and generous cash donations.  The event was hugely successful and enjoyed by all!  A round of applause for Eddie’s children who created this wonderful event benefiting this great cause!

ABOUT IMAGINATION LIBRARY:

We are thrilled that the three local Rotary chapters are leading this program to send free books to preschool children who live in the Verde Valley communities. Children registered in the program receive an age-appropriate book every month in the mail from the Imagination Library collection. The only requirements are that the child resides in the Verde Valley and is between the ages of zero and five.

The country music singer, Dolly Parton, created the Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library in 1996. Today over 1 million children in four countries are registered in the program. Books that are distributed are selected by a panel of noted educators and early childhood development specialists to help promote a passion for reading and learning. Follow-up studies have shown that the program has a meaningful impact on the preparedness of children entering kindergarten. Since the program started in Sedona in 2012, expanded to Beaver Creek School District in 2015 and the entire Verde Valley in 2016, hundreds of children have been receiving books in the mail through the program. Currently, over 1,200 children receive a book every month.
