Kris Kazian, Fire District Update

Kris Kazian Rotary Club Speaker
Kris Kazian gave his annual Fire District update to the club. He indicated that rescue calls are getting farther out and more complex. Traffic impacts response time, but the new facility in the Chapel area is helping to improve response time. There were 4500 calls last year for rescues.

Ron Goldman, who is recovering from a mountain biking accident, praised the response and care that he received on the trail.

Many firefighters are reaching retirement, which means new blood into the district.

Kris pointed out that the work firefighters do takes a toll; there were 117 suicides in fire service in the US last year. He praised Wendy Bialik-Kling for bringing the Yoga for First Responders program to the Fire District as a means to handle the kinds of stress firefighters face.

Bonne Best Removes Her New Member Tag

To have the red "new member" tag removed from their name tag, the new member needs to work through a list of tasks. Bonne has completed working through the list so Jennette Bill helped her remove the red tag to celebrate that achievement. A veteran of several other Rotary Clubs, Bonne immediately threw herself into helping with projects. She now chairs the Membership Committee. Way to go Bonne!

Jerry Wesch presented the club with a certificate of recognition for our role in bringing the Vietnam Veterans' Wall to Sedona.

The original Painting donated to the club by Williamson Tapia raised $75 for the Charitable Fund.
