Exchange student wastes no time in volunteering

Daniel, the newest exchange student from Sweden, participated in the club's recent community service project last Saturday when eight additional team members traveled to Cornville to clean the almost half-acre yard of a Verde Valley Caregivers older adult client. Daniel had just arrived July 27th and after only a couple of days in Arizona he found himself helping take care of the property of a stranger. Daniel broke down piles of boxes for recycling. "This would never happen in my country," he said. “I will suggest such projects to my Rotary Club back home.” Daniel also attended the club's Aug. 5 meeting,  greeting members as they arrived. Club President Jennette Bill asked Daniel what he thought of his visit so far. "It's not what I thought it would be," he said. "It's so much better. I really like it here. The climate, the people--everything is super." To read more of the yard clean up story go to: http://www.sedonarotary.org/Page/in-the-news

Sedona Mayor encourages voting in primaries

Sedona Mayor Sandy Moriarty spoke during the club's Aug. 5 meeting, encouraging everyone to vote in the primary elections as that's typically when city council nominees are elected. The mayor also updated members on city activities and projects. She said the city hired an economic developer, commenting that economic diversity is needed. She said revenues are growing in double digits each year and that ADOT will build a safety fence on Midgley Bridge to help prevent suicides. She added it is her leadership style to study all sides of issues to make the best decisions. Club President Jennette Bill announced the book titled " Dragons Love Tacos" will be donated to the Sedona Public Library on behalf of the Mayor's visit. Jennette thanked her for coming.
