Tips to prevent identity fraud

"If it sounds to good to be true, it probably is," said Betty Delano (left) from the Arizona Attorney General's Office about Internet scams and other offers that can put your identity at risk. She said to beware of phone calls out of the blue supposedly from the IRS and any entity asking you to wire money. She said they are all red flags. She adds any email that asks you to verify your banking account information should be deleted. Beware also of Pop-up ads and only give credit card and other information on secure websites if you feel comfortable doing so. Betty said if your credit cards are stolen or lost or you feel your identity has been stolen file a police report and contact one of the three credit card bureaus to put a fraud alert on your credit report. Also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission at https://www.ftc.gov/. For more information about consumer scams and to make a complaint go to https://www.azag.gov/identity-theft . For home repair scams she said to contact the Arizona Registrar of Contractors at https://roc.az.gov/. To be added to the Do Not Call Registry go to https://www.donotcall.gov/. Club President Jennette Bill thanked Betty for coming and announced a book will be donated in her name to the Sedona Public Library.
Meeting Highlights

Sedona Village Rotary Club holds last meeting of the year

by Damian Bruno
The Sedona Village Rotary Club adjourned the last meeting of the year on Dec. 8. Club Chair Lori Zalesky led the meeting, introducing guests and visiting Rotarians to the group. Dr. Jean Barton, chair of the Imagination Library Committee,  spoke about the need for the Imagination Library Program and how helpful early reading is for children. "The benefit is there even when a child cannot read yet and is just listening to an adult read a story," she said.
Dave Young spoke about the annual Tewa Holiday Project which provides food, blankets, personal care products, clothing and small household items during the holiday season to benefit the Tewa Elders. Miki Dzugan spoke on the Adopt-a-Family project, which she has worked on for several years now. Miki passed a list around for those who might have an item on the list to donate. This is in response to a Food Bank request for help. Harry Grossman spoke about being the Sedona Village satellite group's historian. A position that has as its responsibility the collecting of local newspaper articles and other information into a binder that can be handed down to the next historian. The club thanks Cindy Chapman for being the greeter and Harry Grossman for running the check-in table. The club also thanks Michael at Redstone Grille for the meeting location and great food! A few announcements: Volunteers are still needed for a few more open time slots for the annual Salvation Army Bell Ringing. Please visit SedonaSlavationArmy.com for further information if interested. Tinsel Town Viewing at Tlaquepaque: Vote Fridays/Saturdays or at holidaycentralsedona.com until Dec. 29. Celebration of Lights event: Sat, Dec. 10, 5 to 8 p.m.
