Club celebrates a great 2016

Club President Jennette Bill (left) and Satellite Club Chair Lori Zalesky (2nd left) thank members for a wonderful year during the Holiday Party held Dec. 13 at the Hilton Sedona. Jennette said 2016 started with Tim Ernster's fantastic leadership, flowing smoothly into her term. Mid-year the club changed its meeting venue to Relics Restaurant and the Village Satellite Club was launched. "We couldn't be happier to have such wonderful people join our Rotary family," Jennette said. She also gives kudos to the year's service projects and activities: Committing to new projects at the US/Mexico Friendship Conference; Books for Africa project; expansion of the Verde Valley Imagination Library program; Sedona Suppers; Holiday Adopt-A-Family project; Highway Cleanups; welcoming pot luck for exchange students from two districts; Interact Club and RYLA; the yard cleanup project; participating in Mitzvah Day; our Tinsel Town display, the TEWA project, and so much more. "Thank you all for what you contribute through your time, energy, smiles and support. I look forward to a fantastic second half of my year as president and Lori's year as chair of the Satellite Club. We have such great projects and activities to keep us connected and to fulfill our love of doing what we can to make our world a better place."
Meeting Highlights

Bert promotes Chamber Music Sedona

Bert Harclerode, former director of Chamber Music Sedona, shares his love of the trombone during the club's Jan. 3 meeting. Bert also discussed the origins of chamber music, explaining Bach wrote chamber music for his friends. "We are all touched by music," Bert adds. And Chamber Music Sedona brings world renowned musicians to our neck of the woods. In a recent visit to the Lincoln Center, Bert counted 12 Chamber Music Society musicians who have played here. He reviewed this year's lineup: Jan. 8, Winter Music Festival Concert, 2:30 p.m. at Sedona Performing Arts Center; March 12, Ralph Kirshbaum, cello; and April 9, Spring Music Festival. The season also includes several salons, the next one on April 6. Bert had invited club members to the Jan. 7 dress rehearsal and said afterwards the musicians will give local students tips for competing in All-State Orchestra. Bert said he is proud of how far Chamber Music Sedona has come as well as his association with Rotary. President Elect Dave Young thanked Bert for visiting the club and announced the book "Apples and Robins" will be donated to the Sedona Public Library in Bert's name.
