Club recognizes student scholar

 
 
The club recognized Rotary Honor Student Catherine Chapman during its April 7 meeting. Catherine has been an Interact Club President, National Honor Society Vice President, and Future Business Leaders of America Secretary. She will receive a $500 scholarship to attend the college of her choice. She says she was just admitted to Pepperdine University's Seaver College of Arts and Sciences. She is considering pursuing a medical career or possibly a career in Foreign Service as an ambassador. She adds, "I am passionate about serving the community as I strongly believe in working together to achieve betterment of ourselves individually, and collectively." Club supports children's field book

 
 
Gail Heyer showcased a children's field book titled "On the Trail of Trees, Tracks & Tails," prepared by the Sedona Area Garden Club. Heyer thanked Rotary Club of Sedona for the $500 received to help promote the field guide. Heyer said the book is an "opportunity to encourage kids to go out in the field and look at the environment." She said she has support from all the schools for its use, as well as support from organizations and individuals.
 

Happy Birthday Mèri

 
The club sang Happy Birthday to Mèri Magrone, Rotary Youth Exchange student for 2014-15. Mèri,from Belgium, is a senior at Red Rock High School. Nice to see  you Mèri!

Chili Cook-Off - Coming Soon!

 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
Eleven restaurants and two firehouses are all set to showcase their chili for the Great Sedona Chili Cook-Off to be held on May 2, 11 to 4 p.m., at Tlaquepaque Arts & Crafts Village. All proceeds used for local and international Rotary Club of Sedona projects, including the Imagination Library project. The People's Choice restaurant with the highest vote will receive a $500 cash prize. Sue Shannon has received over 100 silent auction items. Tim Ernster reported during the April 7 meeting, that $17,500 has been raised so far. Special kudos were given to Ron Larson for his dedicated help with sponsorships. It was also announced the event's name will reflect Rod Abbott's in honor of his dedicated service to making the Great Sedona Chili Cook-Off the event it is today. Dave Young reminded everyone he still needs volunteers to help the day of the event. For more info go to www.sedonachilicookoff.org.
