Bert comes back

Bert Harclerode (2nd right) came back home to the club during his induction at the Aug. 11 meeting. Bert, executive director of Chamber Music Sedona, was first installed in 1998. He's now able to return and looks forward to being engaged with the club again. Bert also received the club's first Paul Harris Fellow: Make-A-Difference Award during the annual officer Installation Ceremony held June 30. Also pictured (L-R) is Dr. Bill Minard, Club President Tim Ernster, and Dick Youngberg, Bert's sponsor.

International Service Committee plans year of projects

Dick Youngberg, the club's International Service Committee director, reported the board has approved a $10,000 budget for committee projects, which this year include: $1,000 for ShelterBox USA Club and Interact matching grant challenges; a $1,000 contribution to a possible District Gonvernor's project, $3,000 in uncommitted funds; and $5,000 for the Mexico/USA Friendship Conference and Grants Presentation. Dick said the club will be looking to club membership for providing many of the home hosts, along with the Red Rocks and Cottonwood Clubs. Dick adds that hosting delegates is a fun and rewarding experience: "They are universally warm and enthusiastic people who, in many cases, might become long-term friends." More information on the conference will be coming soon. In addition to the above projects, John Crawford is investigating the sending of used books to Africa. Dick said this would be more of a sustaining project with no start and finish date--a different commitment for the club.
