2016-17 is 100th Anniversary of Rotary Foundation

Assistant District 5490 Governor David Simmer said the Rotary Foundation is the one of the top five in the world for making a difference. Funded by Rotarians, the foundation helps volunteers to do Rotary's work around the world such as eradicating polio and fighting poverty and illiteracy. Rotary President Arch Klumph proposed establishing an endowment in 1917. The foundation was formally named in 1928 and made its first $500 award in 1930. In 1947, Rotarians contribute $1.3 million in Paul Harris's memory. The foundation is now celebrating its 100th anniversary with a $300 million goal. With 30 years experience as a wealth manager, David shared three lessons about money: (1) Money represents the way we can serve; (2) Money evokes powerful emotions (the fear and joy of it); and (3) "The measure of a person is not what they have, but how much they can help. And this is what Rotary is about." David encourages members to please think about giving generously to Rotary.

John started the club's Books for Africa and India program, engaging Verde Valley schools and libraries. Over four tons of books have been collected. He also coordinates the club's program speakers and helps with the front desk. Great job John!
