After an introduction by Jan Maybery, Gunner Tillemans and Dorian Werner, students at Mingus High School, discussed the reasons they are promoting raising the legal age to buy cigarettes to 21. Not only do teenagers get hooked into a lifetime of smoking, their brains are still under development. Smoking, they argue, causes irreparable damage. They also took on e-cigarettes for their very high dosage of nicotine and candy-like flavor that seems to pander to young and under-age customers. The Coalition is lobbying the Arizona State Legislature to change the legal age of cigarette purchasing.
