Helicopter gets ready to drop 1,667 golf balls

Just after the Rotary Club of Sedona Village Satellite celebrated its first anniversary, they produced their first fundraiser “Tee Up Fore Team Big Park.” The Sip & Savor reception held Oct. 6, was sold out and featured silent and live auctions attended by 202 people. Jennette Bill was MC and Fire Chief Kris Kazian moonlighted as auctioneer. Saturday, Oct. 7, the family day saw many activities for adults and kids, culminating in a larger than expected helicopter ball drop of 1,667 balls! Next week look for more details including the ball drop winner’s name and the amount raised for Big Park School and Imagination Library. Dr. Jean Barton thanked Lori, John and Gretchen for helping to support the program, which targets children 0 to 3 years of age. Lori said they are happy to be able to honor her father's memory in this way and thanked all the Verde Valley clubs for collaborating. Club President Dave Young (far left) presented Lori, John and Gretchen a certificate of appreciation for outstanding service in Eddie's memory.

Speaker promotes youth entrepreneurialism

Gwen Ortmeyer spoke to the club about youth entrepreneurship during its Oct. 3 meeting. Gwen discussed a college-level program she taught for four years that required students to develop a "cool" product and business plan, conduct market research, make a prototype, and pitch the product. She's volunteered to replicate this activity with local high school students. Club President Dave Young announced the book "Waiting For High Tide" will be donated to the Sedona Public Library on Gwen's behalf.

Only Six Bashas' Cards available--another way to support your club

Dick Youngberg reports he has six Bashas' Community cards left. The cards function as debit cards. You load them with money and use them to make all your Bashas' purchases. When you use your card the club gets six percent of the value of your transactions. Cards are pre-loaded with $20, so that is your price to purchase. The club receives about $1,000 each year from this program. Please let family members and others know this is another way they can support our efforts. Come on new members, get your Bashas' card and support your club. It really is free money! Contact Dick at or 928-282-3800.
