Chili Cook-Off Best Community Event

Great Sedona Chili Cook-Off wins best annual event

The club's Great Sedona Chili-Cook-Off won the Kudos Readers' Choice Award for Best Annual Local Event in the Verde Valley. Winners were all listed in the Aug. 8 edition of Kudos. The Chili Cook-Off was held May 5 during Tlaquepaque's Arts & Crafts Fair. The event is the club's biggest annual fundraiser. "We are thrilled to receive the Readers' Choice Award for the 8th Annual Chili Cook-off which has become a festive and tasty event for both residents and visitors," said Club President Holli Ploog. "We raised over $27,000 to fund this year’s charitable programs for youth, literacy, seniors, the environment and disadvantaged members of our community. We are grateful for the tremendous local support: our partnership with Tlaquepaque, local restaurants and merchants, and community competitors such as the City of Sedona, Sedona Fire Department and City of Clarkdale." Save the date, May 4, 2019, for the best Chili Cook-off yet!

Hosts needed for Open World group from Ukraine

Hosts are needed to house and provide breakfast for Ukrainian visitors who are part of the Open World exchange/friendship program chartered by the U.S. legislature after the collapse of the Soviet Union to foster goodwill between the people of the former Soviet states and the people of the US. The group of six young Ukrainians with five other leaders/interpreters and Rotarians will tour northern Arizona, visiting the Grand Canyon and arriving in Sedona late afternoon on Sept. 11, leaving for the return to Kingman the morning of the 12th. Hosts are needed for the night of Sept. 11. An event will be held that night for the group, so hosts just need to provide bed and breakfast. Dick Youngberg says this is a great opportunity to make new friends and learn more about the world. Please contact Dick at 282-3800 or ryoungberg5@gmail.com. Even one host will help!
