Club remembers Eddie Passov

The club remembered its beloved Rotarian Eddie Passov during a service held in his memory Nov. 16 at Sedona Golf Resort. Eddie served as a 31-year member and three-time president of Rotary International of Phoenix and Rotary Club of Sedona. Here a club Rotarian remembers Eddie:
"Eddie was a friend to so many of us. He always greeted you with a smile and a big hug and was genuinely interested in what was going on in your life. He loved to talk about his own children and was so proud of them. He was always generous with his time and attention. Eddie dove into whatever project he was involved with – from organizing community dinners to cleaning up yards for Seniors. But his real passion was working with Youth. For years he has interviewed high school students for RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Award) and then attended the leadership camp for long weekends - sometimes in the snow. He enjoyed reading to small children at the Cottonwood Library. He had a passion for “Big Brothers - Big Sisters” He loved his “little” as much as his own children. He has been a positive influence and role model to countless young people. Eddie was an inspiration to us all and always a Rotarian – he lived the motto of Service above Self."
Meeting Highlights

Honor Student Cheif Joseph Lynch recognized

The club presented honor student Cheif Joseph Lynch with a certificate and a $1,000 scholarship to the college of his choice for his academic achievements. His Red Rock High Teacher Carol Goldsmith (far right) said Joseph is so near and dear to her and is the most modest student. Brilliant in the arts, she adds she sees him tutoring kids in the library in math. Joseph has participated in RYLA and the Music in Memory project, as well as many other clubs and sports activities. He is president this year of both the Interact Club and National Honor Society. His interest is in science and botany. He plans to attend a prestigious school and study plant sciences and studio art, with an emphasis in animation. Also pictured is Joseph's mother Noriko Lynch (2nd right) and Club President Jennette Bill. Congratulations Joseph!

Brian Williams helping students spread kindness

Brian Williams, president and founder of Think Kindness, shared during the club's Nov. 15 meeting how he is making kindness "cool" in schools. The mission of Think Kindness is to inspire measurable acts of kindness in schools and communities around the world. He said 63 schools in the U.S. have taken the challenge to do 5,000 acts of kindness in 15 days. He also encourages people to take the Ninja approach--do nice things without getting caught. He said there's three ways to make the world a better place: (1) be grateful, (2) take action; and (3) live with purpose. Brian also shared a personal project of collecting shoes for kids and families around the world. He said in some countries shoes make the difference in kids being able to go to school or not. So far he's collected 300,000 shoes. Two local schools are participating in shoe collections. Club members can donate gently used children's and adult shoes to West Sedona and Big Park schools.
