Chili Cook-Off getting closer

Last Tuesday's club meeting got hot! hot! hot! Dave Young, Chili Cook-Off co-chair, gave an update on how plans are progressing so far. Publicity photos have been taken thanks to Chuck Marr (see fire chiefs Kris Kazian and Terry Keller above). Dave said there are three challenges this year. The Mayor's Challenge, between the City of Sedona and the City of Cottonwood, the Fire Chief's Challenge between the Sedona Fire District and the Camp Verde and the Montezuma Rimrock Fire Districts, and the Restaurant Challenge. So far eight restaurants have entered the competition: L'Auberge, Agave 89, Vino di Sedona, Hideaway House, Timo, Paleo Brio, Verde Vrewing, and The Hudson.

Chili Cook-Off Update - continued

Dave also reported sponsorship solicitations are well underway and will wrap up next week. "We are trying to break the record of $17,000 in sponsorships received last year," he said. "This year, for the first time,  we have an event sponsor, Sedona Pines Resort. They will be given a tent in the middle of restaurant row and will supply free water to the guests." He added that Jennette Bill is leading silent auction efforts. He said another first is that wine is being added to the beer garden, supplied by Arizona Stronghold Vineyard. Chuck Marr has advertising and publicity on schedule. Highlights include a four-page supplement in KUDOS, full-page ad in Red Rock News The Scene, ad in Cottonwood Journal, mark your calendar cards, and publicity photos. Miki Dzugan has the Chili Cook-Off webpage updated and looking great. Please click here for forms and more information: http://sedonarotary.org/Page/the-great-sedona-chili-cook-off.

Get Ready for ShelterBox Challenge--March 15

Tuesday, March 15 is the date for the ShelterBox USA Challenge. You have received ShelterBoxUSA's latest update from Dave Young and Dick Youngberg on where it is delivering disaster aid. "Just imagine yourself in such a situation," Dick said. He asks that we please open our wallets and checkbooks to help reach our goal. Remember, ShelterBoxUSA is an official Rotary Project Partner and Rotary's only disaster relief charitable partner. Tuesday's meeting will include a brief fundraising interval. Dick encourages you to have your donation ready either in cash or a check made out to "Rotary Club of Sedona Charitable Fund." Any amount is welcome! We need to raise at least $500 to reach our goal. The International Service Committee will match all donations. Tax receipts will be given to donors.

The cost of the ShelterBox is $1,000. "Let's try to raise enough to not only fund a Box, but to have more money to donate for purchase of solar lights and other much needed disaster relief supplies," Dick adds. The additional money raised will also be matched by the committee. For more information go to the ShelterBox website: http://www.ShelterBoxUSA.org
