Chamber Music Sedona bringing music education to local schools

Chamber Music Sedona Director Bert Harclerode visited the club to promote the next two performances of the season. Bert said the organization is in its 35th season. He is most proud of bringing world class musicians into local schools. Last year he brought six members from the Lincoln Center. "They've touched the minds, hearts, and souls of 20,000 students throughout the district." He continues about the importance of humanities. "Imagine life without music. The arts help us celebrate the human experience." Bert said the Dublin Guitar Quartet appeared March 11 and the upcoming performance of Sedona Spring Music Festival - Fauré Piano Quartet on April 8, 2:30 p.m. at Sedona Performing Arts Center. Tickets can be purchased online and at the door. For tickets go to: http://chambermusicsedona.org/sedona-spring-music-festival-faure-piano-quartet/  Club President Elect Holli Ploog announced the book "Lion Lessons" will be donated to the Sedona Public Library on Bert's behalf.

Club supports Sedona Healthy Brain Community Initiative

The Rotary Club of Sedona is an official Supporting Organization of the upcoming Sedona Healthy Brain Community Forum on April 9, 8 a.m. to noon at the Sedona Creative Life Center.  The forum is sponsored by Healthy World Sedona, a Sedona-based nonprofit organization and by the co-founders of the Healthy Minds Initiative, Drs. Dean and Ayesha Sherzai.  As a club member you are entitled to discounted registration for this important event. The forum will be an opportunity for individuals and community leaders to learn about the Sherzais’ research regarding brain health, and to explore what would be involved for Sedona and other northern Arizona communities to become brain healthy.  There will be an optional “no host” lunch following the event for those interested in further dialogue about how we might work together to support a brain healthy lifestyle in northern Arizona communities. Cost for the half-day forum is $75 per person, or $50 for members of Supporting Organizations.  All the proceeds of the event will go towards the Northern Arizona Healthy Minds Initiative.  To register go to https://www.eventbrite.com/e/sedona-healthy-brain-community-forum-tickets-43633691546

The club inducted new member Lorena Schmidt (center), during the March 6 meeting. Rotarian Bill Minard (far left) facilitated the ceremony. Membership Director Catherine Moore (right) is her mentor and Rotarian Michelle Behr her sponsor. Lorena moved here 11 years ago and is a National Bank manager. She has four girls, and her daughter Jazmin Santillan was a Rotary Exchange Student to Switzerland. Lorena said she loves children and wants to help make their dreams come true. She has now joined the Verde Valley Imagination Library board. Welcome Lorena!

Help us Be a Great Organization

Great organizations set goals and know what they're good at. We need your help to discuss both of these things and set our course for the next few years. Facilitator Al Barton, CFRE, CAE, MBA, promises it will be fun! Join us at the Sedona Public Library on May 12 from 9 to 12 noon for a rich dialogue (and to find out what Al's acronyms mean).

Get your Bashas' Card--another way to support your club

Do you have a Bashas’ Community Card?  Are you using it?  Eight years ago when we started the program we received over $1,000 per year as a result of your purchases. Using the Bashas’ Community Card as a debit card we receive 6% of what you spend at Bashas’. No restrictions and no limits. Unfortunately, over the years the amount has dropped to about half of that amount. It costs you nothing to make that donation to our club happen other than the time to occasionally re-load the card. If you shop at Bashas’ please consider helping Rotary Club of Sedona continue its service to the community as well as the world. Dick Youngberg has the cards. If you are a member of the Village Satellite Club we can get a card to you easily. Let's get that donation figure back up where it belongs. Please contact Dick at ryoungberg5@gmail.com or 928-282-3800.
