Lynette Jennings inducted

Rotarian Bill Minard (far left) and Club President Tim Ernster (far right) helped to induct Lynette Jennings into the club during its Jan. 26 meeting. Her sponsor, Past President David Simmer(2nd left), said Lynette was the art director for the Slide Fire Exhibit.
She spent a number of years in the publishing industry as writer and editor in chief of the national magazine "Select Homes and Food" and as senior editor of "Canadian Living Magazine." She is best known as the executive producer and host of her own television series that ran for 18 years titled "Lynette Jennings Home and "Lynette Jennings Design." She has written two books among many other pursuits. "Thank you for being so welcoming," she said. "Your friendship has been demonstrated. I'm anxious to be involved and I like big projects and big ideas."

Verde Valley Sanctuary protects victims of domestic violence

Barry Maketansky (left), Community Enterprise Coordinator for Verde Valley Sanctuary, said the United States is really no better than Iraq when it comes to domestic violence against women and children. The sanctuary offers a safe haven for victims of family violence and sexual assault by providing shelter, community outreach, legal advocacy and education and prevention. Barry said they can also house human trafficking victims. He added that financial support is needed and the best way to do that is to volunteer, donate and shop at their two thrift stores: Twice Nice and Second Chance. In recognition of Barry's speaking, Club President Tim Ernster announced the book "Tom Thumb" will be donated in his honor to the Sedona Public Library.
