Navajo Water Project

Club to bring more water to Navajo families

Rotary Club of Sedona is this year's host club for Phase II of the Navajo Water Project, which will bring running water to families in Dilkon. The project has installed over 200 in-home water systems on the Navajo Nation since 2017. The installations include a 1,200 gallon tank installed underground at the home and solar cells to provide power for the pump to bring water inside for the first time. Water trucks circulate every three to four weeks to fill the tank. Each installation costs $4,500. Immediate Past District 5495 Governor David Simmer said, "We will raise as much as we can, so we can do as many homes as possible.” David said about $75-80,000 has already been raised from District 5495, Mexico, the international partner, and various clubs across the country and Mexico. The project's non-profit partner is DigDeep Right to Water Project, which has also conducted hygiene training in local schools in conjunction with installations. The club will make sure installations are completed, give progress updates, and fund raise.

Meeting Highlights

Support Navajo Water Project & your local businesses

Rotary Club of Sedona is coordinating an online charitable auction of gift cards/certificates from local businesses to help them during this difficult time. Rotarians and friends of Rotary are invited to purchase gift cards/certificates from their favorite establishments and donate them to the Rotary auction. The establishments will win twice—once with the purchase of the gift certificates and a second time when the purchaser of the gift certificate frequents the establishment and, in most cases, spends beyond the value of the gift certificate. The online auction will be held for five hours on Sept. 12, 10 to 3 p.m. on CharityAuctionsToday.com. The beneficiary of the auction is Rotary’s Navajo Water Project. Please send your purchased gift cards/certificates to David Simmer, 35 Altair Avenue, Sedona, AZ 86336. (Photo left is from The Artist's Kitchen Shop. Look for this gift card on the auction).
