Northern Arizona Healthcare working to meet community needs

Barbara Firminger, chief access officer for Northern Arizona Healthcare, discussed results of their community needs assessment during the club's Feb. 6 meeting. Barbara oversees NAH's medical group consisting of  3,500 providers and employees. NAH's service area includes 50,000 square miles and 700,000 residents. Barbara said the assessment identified several areas of need and interest including behavioral health, clinical services, especially for specific populations, and promoting healthy lifestyles and foods. She said they are looking at how to expand the new Sedona Campus and growing cancer services in Sedona and Flagstaff in collaboration with Phoenix providers. She underscored the need for more primary care physicians and how they are trying to recruit them. Club President Dave Young announced the book "Tree" will be donated to the Sedona Public Library on behalf of Barbara's visit.

The club recognized Sedona Red Rock Junior High School student Trenton Hyer during its Feb. 6 meeting. Trenton was introduced by Math Teacher Lisa Blagg (2nd left), who described him as a great example of the students that make up RRJH. "He is timely,  a hard worker, always willing to help in class, and very kind and welcoming to new students whether they are in his class or not." Trenton says he enjoys engineering and sports including basketball and football, and would like to major in mechanical engineering. Trenton was presented with a recognition plaque and a gift certificate to Oregano's Restaurant. Also in the photo is Club President Dave Young (far left), Trenton's mom Kristen Hyer (3rd left), and Youth Services Coordinator Jennette Bill (far right).

Get your Bashas' Card--another way to support your club

Do you have a Bashas’ Community Card?  Are you using it?  Eight years ago when we started the program we received over $1,000 per year as a result of your purchases. Using the Bashas’ Community Card as a debit card we receive 6% of what you spend at Bashas’. No restrictions and no limits. Unfortunately, over the years the amount has dropped to about half of that amount. It costs you nothing to make that donation to our club happen other than the time to occasionally re-load the card. If you shop at Bashas’ please consider helping Rotary Club of Sedona continue its service to the community as well as the world. Dick Youngberg has the cards. If you are a member of the Village Satellite Club we can get a card to you easily. Let's get that donation figure back up where it belongs. Please contact Dick at ryoungberg5@gmail.com or 928-282-3800.
