Dr. Ross Hawkins, founder and executive director of the Hummingbird Society, and editor of the "Hummingbird Connection," shared information about the organization and the beautiful little birds that call Sedona home. The Society is a nonprofit charitable organization, founded in 1996 in Delaware. Its international headquarters moved to Sedona in 2006. The society teaches about hummingbirds and works to prevent their extinction. About ten per cent of the known species are at risk. Hummers are only found in the Americas. Of the 338 species, 16 breed in the U.S. The Anna's Hummingbird likes Sedona's mild winters, so it doesn't migrate. The society will celebrate the 2017 Hummingbird Festival July 28-30 at Sedona Performing Arts Center. Club President Jennette Bill announced a book in Ross's honor will be donated to the Sedona Public Library. The society depends on funding from individuals and businesses.
