Service Above Self

The Rotary Club of Sedona provides community services both with financial contributions and with hands-on effort. Here are some of the ongoing programs.
The St. Andrew's church dinner's are always a big hit with all participants, Rotarian's and community members alike. The dinners are always held on a Monday each week and our Sedona Rotary club puts one on every 2-3 months. We've been having BBQ lately and the food is always appreciated for both meat eaters and vegetarians.
For over 20 years our club has been cleaning up a mile of 89A as it leaves West Sedona. While litter seems to be down a bit from years ago, you never know what will turn up along the highway.
New projects come from ideas and passions of our members. Wendy Bialek-Kling started a program to help first responders deal with the stress and trauma they may face on the job through a special yoga program. A pilot program was held with the Sedona Fire District.
The Sedona area has a large population of retired and elderly folks, many of whom live in poverty. Rotarian Kent Ellsworth, Director of the Verde Valley Caregivers, is bringing the club projects to help elders in need with the upkeep of homes and property to assist them to stay in their homes.
Music and Memory is another project to assist the elderly. Ron Goldman of Arizona Elder Care obtained help from the Red Rock High School Interact Club to get iPods and funds for music to download as an aid for people with Alzheimer's. For more details about how this project work visit Alive Inside.
Veterans recognition and needs were a focus of President Tim Ernster (2014-2015). Our club participated in bringing the Vietnam Wall replica to Sedona, sponsored an Honor Flight for Honorary Rotarian, Dick Levy, and contributed to the Sedona Fire District 911 Memorial Project.

Volunteers included Kent, Dave and Suzette Young, Jennette Bill, Catherine Moore, Eddie Passov, Jean Barton, incoming exchange student, Daniel, and Cullen Hollister from Habitat for Humanity.
