Rotary Club of Sedona #1 for Giving

District 5495 Governor Elizabeth Mahoney announced Rotary Club of Sedona is number one in the district for annual giving per capita for 2019-20. She made the announcement during the club's virtual Holiday Social held Dec. 15. "You are such a giving club," Mahoney said. "I just wanted to stop by and say thank you for your generosity." The club, which averages about 30 members, raised just shy of $1,000 per person during the past year, through annual donations to Rotary Foundation, club fundraisers, and now leading phase 2 of Rotary's Navajo Water Project.

Verde Valley Sanctuary helping victims of domestic violence & human trafficking

Verde Valley Sanctuary's new Executive Director, Nicole Florisi, said during the Jan. 12 club meeting, that she wants to provide more trauma care and mitigation for victims of domestic violence. Nicole, who has 20 years experience in law enforcement and is still a part-time police officer, also has a master's degree in counseling and says more classes and skills are needed for victims to rebuild their lives. The Sanctuary offers comprehensive services for victims of family violence and assault including a 28 bed shelter, 24-hour crisis hotline, advocacy and counseling services, legal support and community wide education and prevention programs. Victims and their children can stay up to four months in the shelter. Nicole says toiletry items are always needed. For more information about the Sanctuary and volunteering go to https://verdevalleysanctuary.org/ To thank Nicole for speaking to the club, President Al Barton announced the book "Imagination Vacation" will be donated to the Sedona Public Library on behalf of Nicole.
