Sedona and Verde Valley Rotary Clubs collect 1,000 pounds of trash
Rotary Club of Sedona partnered with Rotary Clubs of Sedona Village, Red Rocks and Verde Valley to collect 1,000 pounds of trash During Rotary Week of Service held April 17-24. Participants were encouraged to hit the trails with friends, go for a walk, or visit a public space, taking trash bags with them. Club members collected about 200 pounds of trash on trails, parks, highways, roads, parking lots and neighborhoods. The project tied in with Rotary International's new area of focus: Environmental Sustainability. Still time to support Rotary Club of Sedona's "Together We Can" campaign
Thanks to all of you who donated to our Arizona Gives Day campaign "Together We Can." Your donations will help support critical services our club provides. The campaign has raised $1,950 so far. Let's get social - Don't miss our next gathering on May 18
The club met live on April 20 at Vino Di Sedona for the first time since the pandemic. The club sponsored wine and small plates. Members enjoyed the fellowship and catching up with friends. You won't want to miss the next social get together to be held on Tuesday, May 18, 4 p.m. at Dick and Marge Youngberg's home at 205 Indian Cliffs Road, Sedona. The social is a pot luck, so please bring what suits your palate with a little to share. Wine, beer & other beverages are complimentary. Keep Sedona Beautiful does just that!
Keep Sedona Beautiful will celebrate its 50th Anniversary next year. KSB President Craig Swanson presented a long list of the organization's community activism during his April 27 visit to the club. He said the number one reason the organization started was to clean up trash. Next KSB tackled ugly signs throughout the city. And the list grows from there. Highlights include: collecting litter on roads; holding a a native plant workshop (with more to come); helping to designate Oak Creek a unique waterway in 1991; raised funds to preserve 500 acres; and helped reach a noise abatement agreement in 2020. KSB also sponsors Awards of Excellence to people and organizations that demonstrate exemplary service to the community. Craig encourages citizens to help shape the Yavapai County Comprehensive Plan Update which includes components such as land use, transportation, water resources, environment, energy, and more. Craig said this is where we can address such issues as using non toxic alternatives for pesticides and herbicides and protecting public lands.
